Another year, another Father’s Day, and I have yet another questionable piece of artwork that I proudly display on my desk.
It's been a while since we have a new interview here at Dads in Tech. Work and life got in the way, so I haven't been able to put up new content at a pace I like.
Occasionally I run into people who:
Tell me that they like and recommend Dads in Tech to their partners
Ask me when’s the next interview
..which makes me feel happy (that some folks find the content useful enough to pass it along) and guilty (I should be doing more!) at the same time.
When I launched this newsletter close to 3 years ago, I put down a few constraints for myself:
Don’t turn this into another job!
Stay as simple as possible.
Be curious and authentic.
Learn!
Three years later, we are now at 35+ interviews, 250+ subscribers, and countless meaningful conversations with fellow fathers both online and offline. I continue to learn a tonne, too.
Happy to also report that Foolet is turning 5 in August 2023. More and more, he’s turning into this little person who is coming into his own personhood. More and more, I see myself evolving from being a caretaker to a coach and a friend. In Khalil Gibran’s slightly poignant words:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
Lastly, I plan to evolve this newsletter as we collectively continue our fatherhood journey. I have some ideas that I can’t wait to implement, with new topics to explore.
May all Dads reading this have a great Father’s Day this year. You are awesome.
